At Crisp we are always looking to bring on new brands, and are proud to now be stockists of stylish and sustainable Kiwi label Standard Issue. When looking at the clothing we want to stock at Crisp, and the clothing we know our customers will love to wear, it’s always important to consider production and composition as well as aesthetics. Standard Issue is a brand that ticks all three boxes, and we are excited to share their brand story with you.
Self-described as “Knitwear Made for Good”, Standard Issue was founded in New Zealand in the 1980s, and sustainability has always been at the core of the brand. Made entirely in Auckland, each Standard Issue collection is produced with Zero Waste. Standard Issue outline four key pillars to building a Zero Waste fashion label:
- Natural fibres: The brand works with 100% natural renewable or recyclable products that not only have a low environmental impact, but have been tested to ensure they will wear well and last.
- Technology and repurposing: Standard Issue garments are knitted with a technology that ensures they are completely seamless, with very little offcuts. The label works with an NZ based fabric repurposing company to ensure any offcuts they do have are recycled and used in household and commercial textile products.
- Limited production runs: All Standard Issue pieces are made to order in-house - they will only produce what retailers have ordered. This eliminates waste and means each knit is truly special.
- Care For Life: The Care For Life program was developed by Standard Issue to ensure that they protect the environmental footprint of each of their garments beyond their workroom. Under the Care For Life program, items with small faults will be repaired free of charge, while items with larger faults can be repaired at a small cost. Knits that are no longer worn can be returned to Standard Issue to be distributed to someone in need, or for the fabric to be repurposed.
Further to their Zero Waste philosophy, Standard Issue run a Jumper for Jumper program, donating a woollen jumper to a Kiwi kid in need for every woollen jumper sold. Jumpers can also be donated for $30 each on the Standard Issue website - for more information, click here.
While we absolutely love the eco-centred approach of the label, we also love their designs, which are so versatile, high quality and easy to wear. Check out some of our favourites below.
